Road Trip After Hours w/ WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long and Host Mac Davis
The story on how WWE Hall of Famer TEDDY LONG got his Smackdown GM gig
Teddy Long takes us behind the WWE curtain with revelations that will surprise even the most dedicated wrestling fans. In a candid moment, the Hall of Famer shares how he discovered he would become SmackDown General Manager mere minutes before walking through the curtain - a bombshell that exemplifies WWE's secretive approach to preventing storyline leaks.
The conversation shifts to heartfelt memories of the late Iron Sheik, with Teddy painting a picture of a man whose authenticity made him beloved backstage. "He was the real deal," Teddy explains, describing the Sheik's no-nonsense approach to both wrestling and life. Mac adds a humorous anecdote about wearing an Iron Sheik shirt to a medical appointment, where someone mistakenly thought he was supporting Iran politically - showcasing how wrestling characters can transcend the ring in unexpected ways.
When discussion turns to Vince McMahon's reported attempt to purchase Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, Teddy doesn't shy away from expressing continued loyalty to his former boss. This leads into a fascinating breakdown of Goldberg's upcoming match with Gunther, where both hosts speculate about potential finishes that could satisfy fans while protecting both superstars' credibility.
The mailbag segment reveals fascinating insights about Teddy's career, including his transition from referee to authority figure and how he navigated the sometimes treacherous waters of wrestling politics. Throughout it all, Teddy's wisdom about wrestling management shines through, particularly his thoughts on why modern WWE should employ just enough managers to enhance the show without overwhelming it.

you know I really like that music, but I wish it would blend in a little bit to the show so it wasn't so abrupt when they cut it out.
Speaker 2:That music is horrible. Okay, Please, I'm begging you.
Speaker 1:It's the only kind we can use on this particular program. We can't use like the boots on the ground. I know that you like, because we'll get served with that, so we've got to be careful.
Speaker 2:Well get, well, let's get served. They'll just give us a warning yeah, that's all they'll do.
Speaker 1:Hello again, everybody. Welcome to wrestling's road trip after hours. I'm your host, mac davis, and that, of course, is wwe hall of famer. Mr teddy, how you doing All the players, all the holla.
Speaker 2:Let me straighten up here.
Speaker 1:Yeah, get that camera straight, will you? Okay, Let me tell you a little story before we get into today's show. A couple of things actually. Do you see the shirt I got on? I don't know if you can hear me.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I can see a little of it. It's the Iron, sheep Iron.
Speaker 1:Sheep, I believe it. Yeah, I make you humble. Um, super baby, I wore that today, uh, and I had to go in for pre-op surgery. Remind me to tell you about this. But anyway, I'm going in for pre-op and somebody actually says are you an iran supporter? And they were dead serious. And I said, excuse me. They said are you, uh, do you think iran is in the right? Do you think Iran is in the right or do you think they're in the wrong? I mean, they started giving me crap and I said, hey, look, look, I didn't even think about that. I said this is a wrestler. I know who he is. I watched him. He was an evil Iranian and he thought it was real. Teddy, he was not happy with the T-shirt.
Speaker 2:I told him. I said I'm sorry, I, you know, didn't mean to defend anybody.
Speaker 1:Well, whether you know it or not, the iron sheik was real. Yes, he was a legit he was the bodyguard right, yeah, he was. He was a bodyguard long before he got into wrestling and uh and uh from iran for the shah of iran. So yeah, he had a legit background, uh, but the iron sheik one of those characters, teddy. I really miss that kind of character in wrestling today.
Speaker 2:Yeah, me too man.
Speaker 1:We don't have those.
Speaker 2:No, he was. And then you know, like I mean, he was the real deal. That's what I liked about him. You know, he didn't put on or nothing fake about it, man, he'd tell you how he felt. If't like you, he let you know. So the Sheik was just a great guy to even be around because he was so funny man and he was good morale for the boys. Man, he was great. God rest his soul.
Speaker 1:And some of the outtakes I've seen him do with Mean Gene Oakland and in the Sheik bloopers and outtakes from those things, hilarious stuff. And the last time I saw Sheik I was at one of the FanFest. And Last time I saw Sheik I was at one of the fan fests and he had his granddaughter with him and she was following him around everywhere he went and he had the little scooter you know where you sit down and he'd just kind of scoot around. I'm going down a hallway and there's people trying to get out of the way and I'm not sure what's going on. But all of a sudden I look straight up and coming directly in my direction, coming right at me in his scooter, full, wide open, is the Iron Sheik. Move my brother.
Speaker 1:And I just jumped out the way, but I thought, man, that's just nothing but the Sheik. And I kept thinking, man, he should have let him run me over.
Speaker 2:That would have been a hell of a story, right? Oh, that's classy, classy Sheik.
Speaker 1:One more thing. When I went in for pre-op today, teddy, you might have had this something maybe you've got experience with but they hand me this bottle of wash. Now I'm not sure what the hell the wash is for. At first I thought it was like some kind of medicine I had to take. Is it pink?
Speaker 2:Yes, yeah, that's what you have to. Before you go in that night, you take a bath, you use that, and then that morning you take another shower and you use that again. So you use that before you go in for surgery.
Speaker 1:Well, I'm asking the lady at the counter. She says okay, and she goes through this little list of things about this wash, and one of them is do not get it in your eyes, your ears, in your privates or in your anal hole. Teddy, I looked at her and I said look here, how am I supposed to stand up in the shower, apply the stuff on my chest, you know, and wash up where it's not? Everything goes down.
Speaker 2:You know as gravity I had to do it, man, you can do it, I'm telling you, man please, that's like another thing, yeah, yeah. Because if you don't, man, they'll delay it because they'll know you didn't use it. So I'm telling you, man, yeah, you'll see when it comes out. It's really not too. You know, it's kind of thick, like. You know you'll be able to control it.
Speaker 1:She told me it would be sticky right after you first get out of the shower. After you use it, it'll get kind of sticky, but it'll dry up and it won't be so sticky anymore.
Speaker 2:Well, won't be so sticky anymore, but I, I don't know, I never experienced that. Yeah, man, I just shower with it, I used it and uh, everything and that was it.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and then she says don't use deodorant, like okay, that's, that's your worry, not mine.
Speaker 2:Now, all right, let's talk about somebody never tell me, don't use deodorant oh yeah, she said no deodorant, no lotions, uh anything oh gee, well, you had a real one there, you know. Yeah, she's back in the day, yeah.
Speaker 1:Let's see Vince McMahon, teddy, he's back in the news. At first, it's been reported that Vince made an offer to purchase a controlling interest in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, but according to David Feldman, who's with that group, he says the whole team and Vince was great, but the timing just wasn't right for us. There are reportedly as well, teddy, several executives in both combat sports and pro wrestling, as well as TKO, that believe Vince McMahon will be involved in the sports and entertainment world again. In fact, many are saying that McMahon already has plans set in motion to make his way back. Your thoughts.
Speaker 2:Well, I certainly hope so, man, I certainly hope so. Like I said, I know people may get tired of it, but the man is the reason I'm where I am today and I want to thank him again. So, uh, whatever he decides to do, I know will be the right thing. Uh, maybe it's a little revenge on some people that, uh, that he may thought of kind of messing around a little bit.
Speaker 1:So, uh, I I'm just glad to see he's making a comeback and if there's any way I can help him, you know I'll be, I'll be happy to yeah, I'd be curious to see and I've said this from the from the beginning and, teddy, I know you have too and there's a lot of people who have a really hard time, uh, believing us when we say this, but in this country, a person is innocent until they're proven guilty.
Speaker 1:Uh, I believe that now is there a lot of evidence out there and things that are being thrown around said about Vince McMahon that are horrible in some cases, yeah, but it's just being thrown around. We don't know that it's real. We don't know that any of that actually happened. Not saying it didn't, didn't say it is, but I know that the person you talk about when we're on this show is the person you dealt with while you were in WWE, right, exactly, and I think people need to remember that because people get oh, no, no, teddy's taking up for Vince, teddy's taking up for a man that he only knows the way he knows him and that's it. He doesn't know anything about it. All the other stuff, yeah.
Speaker 2:Like I said, I got nothing to do with whatever that stuff he's involved in and my opinion is this, like I've always yes, so you know, we don't know what's going to happen at the end of this trial. There may be some other people may be involved and stuff we don't know. So I'm not going to look at it like this man has already done this, because I don't know that and uh go ahead.
Speaker 1:I was going to say the one thing that maybe you know, vince. You know you work with him, so you probably do know better than I do. But when you have a case like this, is he the type that's going to try to prove himself innocent, or do you think he'll stroke a check and just let it go away?
Speaker 2:He'll try and prove himself innocent because you know, like I said, he should do that If he's innocent, then he should fight for his case.
Speaker 1:Yep, yep I'm just wondering if he uh just writes that check, that maybe he can get things rolling without having to worry about the case anymore. But uh, yeah, vince is always the type of person and things I've heard about him. He's very vindictive, very competitive and I just can't imagine, uh, that you know something's not going to happen with vince where he's not going to fight for himself and prove that. You know, this isn't what people were saying. Um, let me ask you about a return. Now, back in WWE, we get Goldberg, who has returned, and he'll be facing Gunther at Saturday night's main event. Does this match do anything for you, teddy?
Speaker 2:A little bit of interest. I'm interested to see how Goldberg's looking. I know he's been on NXT doing some training, getting himself back in shape and getting ready. He's been out of the ring for a while. So I'm just kind of interested in watching him to see if he's learned a little bit how to slow down and not hurt anybody. Because I mean, the guy's a nice guy. I mean, as far as I'm concerned, I got along with him. He guy's a nice guy. I mean for as I'm concerned, I got along with him. He had to have no problem. And I think that whenever he, you know, did something where it was a shoot on somebody, I don't think he meant that man, he would, you know, because he wouldn't try to hurt anybody on purpose. So but in the wrestling business, you know, things happen. So maybe now you know he's got a little bit better, he's learned how to work a little bit better and everything. I'm pretty sure this may be his last run. I don't see him wanting to just keep taking bumps at a certain age in life.
Speaker 1:He's 58 years old. I did a return. When I came back I was 52, I believe it was Teddy. That's hard when you don't do it on a regular basis. That's really difficult the older you get, especially when it comes to air.
Speaker 2:And I think the other thing with him too. Now he has a son there and he's wanting to do good with his kid and everything. And his kid has grown up enough now to he understands the business so not totally, but he understands what his dad is doing. So I think the other thing too, when he does come back, I think they need to work a spot in there where they do something with his kid or something involve him, get him involved and continue from there.
Speaker 1:Let me ask you. I've heard different people say that they expect that Goldberg is going to do the honors, and then there's another group out there saying, no, they're going to put that belt back on Goldberg and gave him a short run again. Do you feel like Goldberg should go out, you know, doing the honors on his back, or should he go out as a champion, as a winner of a match? Let's put it that way.
Speaker 2:Well, I don't think he's coming in to be a loser.
Speaker 1:I don't either. I just wonder how that will take. Will the fans take to him, at 58 years of age, of being that champion?
Speaker 2:Well, you know, I don't know. I look at it like this. You know what I mean. They got to do a program here. So I'm saying, you know, maybe at the end of this thing maybe Goldberg does get the 1-2-3, but then there may be some stuff during the aftermath, so we'll just have to see how they work this out. You know what I mean. There may not be a 1-2-3. There may be something where they send some guys down, ding ding, ding, ding, ding DQ. You know what I mean?
Speaker 1:Goldberg gets to win that way by not having to pin the guy. I guess we'll find out soon enough, because that show's coming up in Atlanta. That'll be an Atlanta program, so it'll be right up the road from Teddy, down the road from Teddy and up the road from me. Steve Morris, popping in, by the way, if you want to be a part of the show, all you got to do is just drop us a question. You don't need a super chat, super sticker, none of that. You can talk to us free. Just simply leave your question down below and we'll throw it up on the screen. Steve, we sure need something new. I just watched a damn 10-man and a 14-man tag team match. I was looking for Teddy to come out with Undertaker Teddy. There does seem at times like we get these huge groups of people in these multi-tag team, you know matches. Is that because of time? They just can't find the time to get these tag teams in various parts of the show, so they cram them all together in one.
Speaker 2:Well, I don't think it really works like that. I mean, I think when they write that show, they're probably going to do something, maybe with a 10-man tag team. You're trying to do something different. You know, tag matches are just four guys. You've seen that on and on and on. So you know, would you get six eight-man tag team matches, Something a little bit different? So it just gives people something different to watch.
Speaker 1:Let's see Jim Hoffer. Hey Jim, good to see you in here. My friend, he's in St Louis, would know who he is the one time. I'm hoping there's a run in, maybe Jey Uso, and that I guess he's talking about the match between boy man. My mind just went blank.
Speaker 2:Goldberg and Gunther.
Speaker 1:Hey man, you know it's been a long day hey you know what.
Speaker 2:You know what would be good, and I know they won't do this, but what would be good is doing this. Goldberg-gunther, the guy that I would have running would be Bret Hart.
Speaker 1:You know and you were touching on that a minute ago that you don't think Goldberg ever meant to hurt anybody on purpose. And Bret Hart is the guy that has always been so vocal about goldberg, uh, saying that he ruined his career and he held a grudge against anybody.
Speaker 1:There's the money yeah, yeah, and that's why I'm saying I can see the connection and why you're making that connection now. Uh, yeah, and I'd like to see that somehow get repaired because, quite honestly, one of the things about bret hart and I know you love bret hart and I have nothing against bret hart, but I always have seen him as a guy who always just seems so disgruntled about the business- you know, that kind of guy and he's putting down you know goldberg and always bitching and complaining about what he did to his life.
Speaker 1:I just don't think it was meant on purpose. Just like you.
Speaker 2:Right, well, brett's just old school man. You know what I mean. So you know Brett is setting his ways and that's how it's going to be, and not only Brett, a lot of guys that's been around the business as long as him and I. You know we're old school man. You know sometimes we're just to learn. Now Things have changed. It's the 20th century man, so you just got to change with, you know. Get in tune.
Speaker 1:Were you in WCW when Goldberg first started or were you already gone? Yeah, no, I was there. What was the reaction of the guys in the back about his push and getting you know all of a sudden, all these wins, one after the other. There had to be some guys in the back that didn't appreciate that wins one after the other.
Speaker 2:There had to be some guys in the back that didn't appreciate that I hadn't been that long enough to get in a position to hear. None of that, you know. Back then, you know I had to watch my own back. So you know I, you know I would never let in on those kind of conversations. I was all kind of kayfabe then, but as time grown you know what I mean.
Speaker 1:Then that's when I, you know I, I graduated, yeah I just can't help but think that the guys in the back who came into the business uh, the old way, seeing this guy just show up and all of a sudden beating and pinning everybody in a matter of moments uh, that had to be rough, uh, in the back of some of those guys. Well, that.
Speaker 2:You know that's what it was with the luger. You know at the time when luger came in, you know he had contract. He was the only guy had one, and so you know when the guys found out about that you can imagine.
Speaker 1:Oh yeah, oh God, yeah, let's see we got David stopping by and saying hello. Uh, we also have, I think. Uh, yeah, renee, she's stopping in saying hey, mac and Teddy, good to see you.
Speaker 1:Uh, we also. Uh, see, david is, maybe Seth Rollins will cash in if Goldberg wins. And now, teddy, I want to say, maybe when we did Sportskeeda's show the other day with Bill Apter, he may have mentioned that that could be a possibility where Goldberg beats Gunther, but just as he celebrates his win, seth Rollins cashes in on Goldberg and walks away at the end of the night as the champion. That, actually, I would be okay with. How about you?
Speaker 2:I would too. That's not bad at all. Not bad at all, and it doesn't hurt. Goldberg.
Speaker 1:No, no, he still gets that last championship win. And he gets screwed right at the very end, which nobody will ever really remember, that, except for Seth Rollins fans yeah.
Speaker 2:But it doesn't, it won't hurt him. You know what I mean. Like I tell you all the time, it's not how you win matches, it's how you lose them. Yep.
Speaker 1:Joe Abel popping into the room here. Joe, it's been a while. I hope everything's good with you. He says, hello, wrestlingcon, maybe next year. Yeah, I saw where the River City WrestlingCon announced that they will be coming back again next year about the same weekend as it was this year. So more information coming on that as we get closer to it. But it just got over, so it's going to be a while. Let's see Renee Adams saying she is wonderful and Jim talking about that idea, with Seth Rollins saying he'd be okay with it. I really think that it's really a good idea. That's creative enough that it would keep my interest. To be honest with you.
Speaker 2:And that keeps them up with the time. You know what I mean? Yeah, that brings Goldberg right into 20th century. Right on in there.
Speaker 1:Yep, All right guys, let's see real quick. We got to get that mailbag opened up here.
Speaker 2:Letters. Oh, we get letters. We get your letters every day. Mailman, mailman, mail. Today, reach right in and pull one out. Oh, letters, I love those letters, let's find out what you've got to say. Oh boy Mailman.
Speaker 1:Mail today. All right, let's see, Teddy. Our first question comes from Amanda on X, who writes how did Vince approach you about becoming the SmackDown general manager? Sure?
Speaker 2:Well, he didn't. The night that that happened I didn't know that until five minutes before I went in the ring. I was there all day long. They never told me anything about it. And the reason I found out about that the reason they did that back then because they had a lot of guys that as soon as they found out something they'd go straight on social media and get it out there and then people would know what's going on even before it even happened. So I think that's the reason that I wasn't told until then. But what happened is about five minutes before I got ready to walk out, vince walked up to me and told me I was going to be a general manager of SmackDown.
Speaker 1:Now I know you're not going to show him your reaction, but your reaction inside at the time was holy crap.
Speaker 2:Well, no, Well inside me. Well one. Well, no, what's inside me? Well, one thing I know I really got frightened, I got scared, I'm like oh my. God, you know what I mean, cause I'm like you know, because I know what this position is and I know what has to happen here. You know what I mean. So I really got scared, but I think after the first night I walked out, I got the shakes off of me and everything, so I kind of got over it.
Speaker 1:All right, let's see. We have Curly man popping in saying hi, mac and Teddy, how you doing players, I'm doing great. And, by the way, I did send out that shirt again for everybody who's waiting on a shirt. Everybody should have one. If you don't have one by the end of the week, contact me. But everybody should have their shirts. Zach Minger popping in saying happy Juneteenth. And let's see Also we have. Renee. You guys have a wonderful evening. Thank you, renee, I hope you do as well. Here's another question Reginald in South Dakota.
Speaker 2:Did you ever sustain any injuries during your time in wrestling? I believe one time I suffered an injury. I think I was a referee and when I went to Vince I first went there and I remember I was a referee in a match with Big Show and he grabbed me and he never told me and he grabbed me just out of the blue to get to throw me out of the ring. Well, he grabbed me and threw me so quick that I didn't even have a chance to grab the second rope to try to break my fall. I went straight through man right on the concrete there and I never will forget that was the night too.
Speaker 2:I walked back in the gorilla and Vince said to me he said don't you ever let anybody grab you and throw you like that again. And I was just trying to tell him I didn't even know he was going to grab me just out of the blue. So that's something, that little bit of injury, and I don't know. I might've had some when I was managing or something, but there wasn't that where I was because I wasn't taking no whole lot of bumps or nothing. You know what I mean. So I think all my injuries like fatigue.
Speaker 1:Herb Simmons is. Herb simmons is popping in saying uh hello, hey, herb good to have you in the room.
Speaker 2:We appreciate it. Hope everything's going good. Thank you, herb. Thank you once again. That's our man, herb simmons, out of st louis, over there with the sicw uh fan fest. They do there every year and so this year they moved it into right into st louis and I'm sure that's where it's going to be next year. And, like I said, I believe if the tornado hadn't happened there, things would have been a lot better, but they were good.
Speaker 1:Don't get me wrong.
Speaker 2:But, like I said, I believe that now that we're in St Louis, the heart of wrestling, the soul of wrestling, I think the people are really going to come out and show their appreciation.
Speaker 1:Yeah, Unfortunately, the weather just did not cooperate that particular weekend. The shows are always fantastic and it still was for those who could come, but the weather was so bad and I know they've been having a lot of that lately. There are a lot of storms and tornadoes in that area, so everybody in the St Louis and the surrounding areas stay safe out there. If they tell you that something's coming, I've seen some of these storms on video live when it's going down. Man, they are just monsters out there lately, so be really careful, real quick.
Speaker 1:Herb may know something more about this too, but there's a little bit of a stink going on right now and it involves Abdua the Butcher and his book. Now somebody wrote a book but shouldn't have wrote a book. It's something along those lines. Abby's not getting anything for this book on Abdua, even though there was supposed to be an agreement between the two. I don't know what it is, herb, if you know, I would like at some point, maybe next week, if we have a chance, to kind of talk about that when I know more about it, because from what I'm gathering, abby's getting screwed, uh, by somebody who's claiming things that just aren't true, and I know, herb, you've got some information and some uh evidence when it comes to that as well. So I mean, I just hate to see anybody, especially like abby, uh, somebody taking advantage of him, and I hope that's not the case.
Speaker 1:Yeah, all right, let's see. Uh, we got, uh, let me get some more of these in here. Excuse me, we have 40 ounce C-Dub. Hey brother, goldberg got whooped bad in Atlanta, so bad that someone from Georgia comes out to stop Gunther, aj Styles, cody Rhodes, austin Theory or Roman Reigns does it because of the playing for GT, georgia Tech and the Football Brotherhood, even though Goldberg played for the University of Georgia. I think that's a long stretch, teddy. What do you think?
Speaker 2:Well, I don't think they're going to go that far. You know what I mean. If you're going to do something, then maybe I'd have some of the Georgia players or something you know, at ringside you know front row seats and then maybe something happens and maybe a couple of them try to get involved and we put you know they're pushing them back, getting them back. That's really all you need for that, right there.
Speaker 1:Good to see you, brother. That's Chris. I know who that is Pretty classy lady popping in and saying hey, and she's also asking here.
Speaker 2:Teddy, who picked your groomsman when you married Crystal on Smackdown, who was the groomsman?
Speaker 1:I don't even remember.
Speaker 2:I imagine Ron had to be one of them oh okay, we picked Ron Godfather and then my son was in it and was JBL involved. No, it was just Ron Godfather.
Speaker 1:I know my son, antoine, was in it and I think it was JBL.
Speaker 2:No, no, it was just Ron's father. I know my son, antoine, was in it. I think I came up with that, especially with my son, you know, by being, you know, a wedding. So I had a little bit to do with it. But I think the writers and stuff, they basically, you know, did that all.
Speaker 1:Pete Rosen popping in and saying, of course, sicw rocks. They have Lucky P Larson. Unfortunately, he is the manager of the Stars and surely Teddy's favorite current manager. I had a question in here somewhere. I think yeah, we do. Let me get to that. While we're talking about managers here. Thank you, pete. Irene on X is asking that. While we're talking about managers here. Thank you, pete. Um irene uh on x is asking I heard you guys talking about this is on a different show, talking about managers on the other show. What are teddy's thoughts on managers in wrestling and should wrestling go back to them, teddy?
Speaker 2:well, I think it's always good to have a manager. You know what I mean. It really helps. Sometimes it's according to you know what role he's in. You know too, like I said, managers were basically back in the day, were for guys. That was tough in the ring but they couldn't talk. So they always have a guy to talk. That's the way my role was when I had Butch Reed and Ron Simmons. Those two guys could talk, don't get me wrong. But Butch Reed and Ron Simmons, those two guys can talk, don't get me wrong. But I just had that swag, you know what I mean. And so I just talked it up and they did. You know what I said. So I think it's great to have them. I think it is.
Speaker 2:I don't think you need to have a whole lot like it was back in the day. You used to have three or four managers. You know that's way too many. You know you know maybe three, no more than that. You know that's enough right there, because you can always, you know, get, you can start a little few between your managers.
Speaker 1:Oh, you know, there's a story right there yeah, and you would think, with today's wrestling focusing more on entertainment than there is the action in the ring, a lot of times, like you say, it's e in that name for a reason it's entertainment. You would think that managers having a couple more people other than just paul hayman who can use a microphone and really electrify a crowd and make them hate him or love him one or the other, I'm surprised that they don't do that, because that is entertainment. Well, doesn't surprise me. Let's see Herb Simmons. He is commenting back about that Abby situation. He said he'd be glad to. He just did an interview. Commenting back about that Abby situation. He said he'd be glad to. He just did an interview. Herb, I'll get with you in the next couple of days and we'll set that up so we can talk about whatever that is that's going on there, with Abby and Chris back in here saying hey, mac, I saw some of your good brothers Saturday at Larry Otto for their TV taping. I actually ran one of the cameras. I'm sorry, that means that thing's gonna be out of focus.
Speaker 1:Uh, big things happening, he says. But uh, good, good to know. Well, you tell him keep his day job. Yeah, keep your day job. That's what teddy says. Uh, zach, in the room too. Hey, zach, mac and teddy, how you doing? We're doing great good player. And he also is saying that we need more managers nowadays. Uh, and let's see herb. Uh, now, this is a guy old promoter here that knows his stuff and herb saying too many managers take away from them. Uh, meeting some of the talent.
Speaker 2:Yeah that's what I just said. You don't need to. You know, like back in the day you had gary hart, then you had scandal agbar, you had two or three guys come out on the same show.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah you know yeah that's what I was saying.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that that those managers do take away from the guys yeah, I miss.
Speaker 1:You know there are legendary managers out there over time, and it all depends on where you watch wrestling, because some of the managers I may mention you've never heard of and vice versa, uh, but I always did enjoy a good manager. But you don't need in a, you don't like you say, you don't need a roster full of them, you just need a sprinkling of them in there to keep the flow going, and I think that, again, it's entertainment and it's something good to have for the people who need it, people like now we saw the other day where Bill After did not like Solo Sokoa on his own without a microphone being held by somebody else. He had mentioned that he thought he needed a manager. Teddy, I don't think so, fatu, he has an energy and an intensity about him that I don't think a manager could pull off, do you?
Speaker 2:Well, I think the manager would just be in the way. I think he needs to be by himself and you'll see he can talk. Okay, he's a guy that just you don't get it right away. He has to grow on you and you'll see he'll get as as they put him out there, and he realizes that. You know, I got to do this on my own, I got to learn these provos and he'll get better. That's what I'm saying. I just don't think he needs, needs somebody. That's him with that rugged look that he's got. He just needs to be there by himself and talk his own game.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and I still contend. For those of you who do not know Jacob Fatu other than what you've seen in WWE, I'm telling you he doesn't need somebody to hold a microphone for him, you just need to let him be him and he'll come across. He's actually done some great promos in WWE. If you go back and watch him, if you don't think they have, go in the back. Some of the backstage promos he's done are very good and right on target of who he is. He knows that. He knows what to have to do this.
Speaker 1:Yeah, uh, let's see we, uh, pete, uh, popping back in here. Uh, for what it's worth, I have seen glucky get so much heat as a manager that he feared for his safety. Uh, I believe that I think managers add to the story that the match tries to tell. I agree with Teddy that every match doesn't need one, but there should be one or two. And yeah, pete, I think we all agree on that. I think we need some. We just don't need too many. And also, we have Zach popping in. Solo is perfect, just the way he is. And I agree, teddy, we're out of time. We just actually a little bit over. But man, I've enjoyed this today and I love when everybody gets in the room and ask questions, because that's one of my favorite parts of the show and, speaking of which, every week, teddy picks someone as our winner of a Road Trip After Hours t-shirt for the question of the week. Teddy, who are we going to give this to?
Speaker 2:for the question of the week. Teddy, who are we going to give this to? I don't remember the name, but the person that called in and wanted to know how quick did I know I was going to be General Manager for SmackDown.
Speaker 1:Yep, that came from X, I believe. Yeah, that's Amanda on X. So, Amanda, congratulations All right, Thank you. Amanda, excuse me, I'm about to lose my voice here. Teddy, talk a little bit, will you? What is going?
Speaker 2:on. You and Bill After are doing some kind of unknown drug and y'all are not telling anybody about it, I'm telling you there's too much resemblance. You two are just doing the same stuff.
Speaker 1:Look here, I had somebody that came up to our table too, talking about resemblance when Teddy and I are together. You know what I want to say already, don't you? Yeah? And people come up and if Teddy's gone, they'll say where's Teddy? And I say, well, he'll be back in a minute, but I'm his twin brother, can I help you? And they just look at me for a minute. We're both bald. We both got the goatees going on. I mean, we're about the same age. Well, teddy's a little bit older. You know, he rolled out the first wheel, the stone wheel, when it came out. Uh, teddy, I'm out of here. Brother, I've enjoyed this. I know you had a great time this past week. You had your banana pudding. I'm jealous because I didn't get any. Yeah, but you know, god, we got some more stuff in here, teddy. We just can't get to it. If I get to it, we're going to start a whole other night.
Speaker 2:It does say, though Eric Heelbiz does say Teddy, you need to start being more nice to Mac. Well, Eric, I think you need to mind your own business.
Speaker 1:Hey everybody, we appreciate you coming by and visiting us again this week. We do this every Thursday night, 7 o'clock Eastern time, for Wrestling's Road Trip. After Hours I'm your host, mac Davis, and that, of course, is WWE Hall of Famer, mr Teddy Long, and.
Speaker 2:Eric, remember. I do know Undertaker's number.
