Road Trip After Hours w/ WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long and Host Mac Davis
Christmas Night With Teddy Long And Mac
A quiet Christmas night turned into the kind of live hangout we love: full of warmth, road stories, and the kind of honest talk only a tight community can handle. We kicked off with Lola in her holiday outfit, fan roll call lighting up the chat, and Mac’s Waffle House saga that only wrestling lifers truly understand on a day when everything else is closed.
From there, we pulled back the curtain on how holiday shows used to work in the territory days—double shots in Greensboro and Atlanta, no time off, just the grind that built entire careers. Then we compared that to today’s schedule, where TV and premium live events set the tempo and wrestlers actually get time with family. It’s a real marker of how the business evolved and what it owes to the people who carried it when the road was all there was.
We also faced a tough headline: the Ric Flair cameo that left a bad taste for fans who paid top dollar for a milestone message. We talked about what fans expect with paid access, the risks of tying big life moments to celebrity shoutouts, and how creators should protect trust. The mailbag kept spirits high and real—Die Hard’s Christmas status, Grinch-vs-Santa self-portraits, and a candid memory of a holiday lost in the haze. Music shoutouts ranged from the Isley Brothers and the O’Jays to DJ Khaled, Cardi B, and a dash of Teddy Swims, because comfort tracks matter this time of year.
We wrapped with what’s ahead: celebrating Abdullah the Butcher’s 80th birthday in Atlanta with Ron Simmons and the Rock ’n’ Roll Express, plus MLW returning to Center Stage in March. If you want us at your con—Jacksonville and beyond—say the word and tell organizers. We’re here for the meet-and-greets, the stories, and the sushi spots we never forget. If this felt like a living room on Christmas night, that’s by design.
If you enjoyed the show, tap subscribe and ring the bell to help us reach 10,000. Share this with a friend who loves old-school road tales and modern wrestling shifts, and drop your take: is Die Hard a Christmas movie? We’ll see you next week.
Feliz navigat feliz navidad feliz navidad pour les visas feliz navidad feliz la vida feliz la vida ding ding ding dong hey look everybody we are live on a Christmas night tell you without a frame for a moment but yeah I was out of I was moving around I'm like oh god there I hear Mac oh yeah man got talking and everything else look here uh we got some folks already in here i i the fact that anybody's gonna join us on Christmas night amazes me and the folks that are already in here thank you very much uh we will take your uh questions your comments whatever we'll throw it off on the screen in just a moment here uh all you gotta do is just put something in the comment section that doesn't cost you anything is absolutely free and I got that little thing in the corner it keeps blocking my face so I might have to keep telling myself to stay over here or I can hide behind it I guess Teddy like that. What are you doing, Teddy?
SPEAKER_02:I'm trying to get our special guest I got a special guest it's very it's Christmas day and uh I wanted everybody to understand that uh I'm having a Merry Christmas and let's see Lola said Lola hey Lola how are you sweetie get her a little there she is even got a Christmas outfit on yeah she's got her Christmas out oh we she wants to give me a little nose and nose there that's what she's doing there she called that flirting that's a that's what she does that kind of stuff there yeah look oh well never mind I won't say anything it's Christmas night right now so I'm gonna be quiet well this is Lola she's so precious and she's had a great merry Christmas uh with Denise and Bianca and all of us today a lot of great food and stuff so brother every day has been a good day so we are really blessed and we just want to wish everybody a Merry Christmas what did you eat uh for uh Christmas day because I know when you're with Miss Denise you eat so what what was on the I I had the uh the the ribs today you know those ribs that melt any mouth and uh well I got Lola Lola keeps giving me nose and nose here so uh let's see I had potato salad I think I did I had uh smoked turkey and I had uh what other kind of turkey ham and um ham's not turkey macaroni and cheese well I had I said another kind of turkey and another kind of turkey ain't ham.
SPEAKER_01:But we have smoked turkey and what else a regular bakery okay a regular baked turkey I know Mr and I know it's good because I know if Miss Denise's cooking because you tell me all the time about how good her cooking is I I took my wife we we went out and had uh our Christmas meal today at the Waffle House. Uh you know that's that's a real staple in wrestling so you know okay that's the only place in this entire town you can find something to eat. This is one of those days Teddy where I'm surprised Cracker Barrel doesn't stay open on Christmas day uh because I would imagine there are a lot of people who would eat there.
SPEAKER_02:I mean the heck you go to Waffle House you all of a sudden you're on a one hour wait for a table at Waffle House you know because it's the only thing open all right well let's see uh like I said we got Lola right here with us and uh I'm gonna put her down in just a little bit but uh I'll hold her for a little bit I think Denise uh they're trying to find the YouTube channel so they can that's what they're doing while they're doing that I do want to mention uh that uh Zach Minger is already in the room saying Merry Christmas Teddy and Mac and uh Zach you didn't leave us a what is today kind of thing.
SPEAKER_01:I guess it's obvious, right? It's it's Christmas so I don't know. All right let's see what else we got. We got uh pretty classy ladies saying to uh Merry Christmas and uh Merry Christmas to you too. Uh curly man is in the room as well Teddy saying Merry Christmas.
SPEAKER_02:Well Merry Christmas to classy lady curly man and all of our regulars that are joining us each and every week. Yep Herb Simmons in here saying Merry Christmas to us both and uh that's the legendary Herb Simmons Herb Simmons I know you heard um the challenge from the last from the one doula the butcher so uh you know just let me know whenever you guys want to go one on one and I tell you what that that one there I think I'll be the special referee for.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah and I think I I mentioned I will be the uh ring announcer for that particular match I'll I'll I'll actually open the matchup for you yeah man just uh book it yeah we're we're good to go uh let's see what else we have uh pretty classy ladies saying what in the world was that intro oh the fleece Nabidad with uh Teddy playing the Maracas and stuff like that yeah that's that's one of my Christmas favorites only Mac only Mac that's uh that's only him only him would do that scott Lance is in the room as well saying Merry Christmas good to see you Scott and Merry Christmas brother all right Scott we also have uh let's see pretty classy lady saying I thought we were going to see Rufus I've never seen him before oh you Rufus has been on the show uh I don't know has he been on live with us though he may not have been on the I think he did he you know one time we he was barking at something and I finally called him in he came in a little bit and left well no well Rufus is um at the uh christmas eve uh christmas day hotel and uh Rufus would not be happy if he saw his dad right now with another dog enjoying Christmas eating all that great food getting all that love Rufus is gonna be at you you walk well Rufus better get used to it because uh all this gonna have to come to a a head one day look here i wrestling wise you know it's not a lot going on because uh everybody's off in the WWE they actually get time off now during Christmas uh which is something you know that at one time you never got you know never happened for me in my day even though you you work twice a day you'd work uh one town that afternoon and then you'd drive from Greensboro back down Atlanta and work Atlanta that night and now but look you can still get close to wrestling as close as you want maybe even I don't know maybe a cameo or one of those things where you can send something out to somebody pay a little money and and get a great video from a legend in professional wrestling much like uh just recently who was that Teddy um Ric Flair Ric Flair just recently gave somebody a cameo they paid nearly a thousand dollars I hear uh for this uh cameo I it teddy do you know much about cameo do you do cameos as well I did that one time and then I left it alone I didn't know too much about it so I was having problems with it so and I never did have anybody to kind of help me and straighten it out but I I don't know too much about it.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah it's it's just kind of a thing where you just they they tell you what they want you to say and you just kind of say it in your own they gotta pay you you know whatever you charge or whatever they want say it and you give them your price and I think you know it goes from there.
SPEAKER_01:Well the video that I'm seeing is Ric Flair uh talking about a guy who's getting married Ric Flair during this video uh looks may not be allegedly may have been doing a little drinking he is in a bar uh and he talks about this guy like why in God's name do you want to get married? That's the worst thing they're trying to give this to a guy you know before his wedding as something he of a hero of his which was Ric Flair and all he gets is a bunch of slurred words coming out of Ric Flair looking like he got in a fight with his razor uh in the morning time and you know before he even came up on the camera. It was horrible Teddy abs and I see everywhere now that people are really not happy with this.
SPEAKER_02:Well you know this guy you know he shouldn't be surprised you know what I mean I don't really have nothing to really say about it. I could care less so but uh he knew what he was doing when it started so if you wanted to give a guy the what they say a thousand dollars or something he paid uh for him to do the cameo you knew the the when you saw him you already knew the condition that he was in so don't don't start talking about trying to complain about it now. No and and I will say this if you spent a thousand dollars for look I can think of better things I can do with a thousand dollars than just to get somebody going hey congratulations it's your birthday or whatever come on come on no no and somebody's going that what what that's the worst thing you could have ever done yes a guy getting married and there's another guy you paid a thousand dollars to to get to congratulate you and he tells you it's the worst thing you could have ever done yeah and I would think I'd want a refund. I'd be like hey I want my money back i you know this ain't working it that it don't work like that it's it's it's over once you paid that thousand you ain't getting nothing back pretty classy lady by the way Teddy's asking uh what type of dog is Rufus Rufus is a pit bull and German shepherd yeah and he's a beautiful dog too just as sweet as he can be he won't let me anywhere near Teddy and I want to mention another thing too uh we got another dog you know we could uh she's not able to be with us because she's on the outside but Bella is her name and uh Bella's a pit bull Bella's beautiful I'll get some pictures of Bella and sitting there so the people can see her but uh Bella's another one that's uh one of our favorites I dated a dog one time her name was Bella yeah her name was Bella that's why I said that's and she probably was a dog if well yeah you know it's just one of those late nights where you go well okay well yeah and and knowing you that's exactly what happened no no no no all right look here uh before well let me real quick here I'm getting a message in I'm trying to pull it up real quick Herb Simmons is saying now I'm going to be there on the 9th of January talking about SICW to sign the match all right and look here you just let us know also uh we have Leon John Jock I'm sorry my I I gotta enlarge my screen a little bit here hello to the legends you both look great and we're so happy to have you uh in the Jacksonville St.
SPEAKER_01:Augustine area for the wrestle cons uh fans remember the great old days and you kept us wanting more each week you guys are as important as uh boy that's that's all I got unless it rolls well I just see the end of it as you guys are important as the people or something I think that's about the end of it. But uh hey Dave thank you very much man we really appreciate that Mac and I always enjoy being in the Jacksonville Florida area hopefully we'll uh see you guys next year that we don't know right now but if we do you know we'll we we we'll be happy to talk to you do whatever you need hey by the way if you're in that area or if you're gonna be going to uh that particular event uh in Jacksonville it happens every year it's a fantastic event let let them know that you want us there that's all you got to do just just say hey look we love to have those guys there that that has been a one of my favorite trips Teddy knows this uh we were talking about Herb Simmons a minute ago Herb Simmons visit every year I enjoy because it is so well done the Jacksonville show is very well this is a on a huge scale they do a fantastic job uh and they also have a great place to eat in Jacksonville that Teddy and I love to go to uh sushi place we found yeah yeah and I'm not a sushi fan this place is absolutely incredible all right Teddy we got to step out of here uh just for a moment uh and I do want to mention that uh that Teddy and I have been very busy over the holidays and here's one of the things we were up to letters oh we get letters we get your letters every day mail mail mail mail today we try to whatever I love those letters let's find out what you got to say oh boy mailbag mail today all right let's look into the mailbag here music is already bad enough we don't need you to come in and help it out well you know I just figured out I I never know when we're popping in really soon all right look here let's get to uh your first question this is from Cindy Lou who asked Teddy what is your favorite Christmas memory good question I don't really know man I don't really have a favorite Christmas memory I mean all of them have been um successful I've been able to see them I remember one time I was telling the East this story I slept through Christmas well I I was heavily uh in drugged up intoxicated whatever you want to call it but uh I woke up Christmas gone uh Ellen by the way is in the room too Teddy she is uh saying Merry Christmas Mac and Teddy and hey uh hello how are you doing and uh what's uh what's uh Buddy buddy buddy golly buddy yeah tell buddy Merry Christmas I saw a video of Buddy uh yesterday maybe today he was in uh his in his Christmas outfit uh sitting uh next to a table and she was recording him and he looked like he was having just a ball you can see how how happy he was in that video really cool video. Uh pretty classy lady is saying that uh we were talking about Rick Flair a few moments ago she says I think differently of Flair after what I heard he said about you. Uh yeah that's uh that's that's something that uh you don't forget ever. Uh what is this now? Is this actually Bill Aptor? Okay I that may be really Bill Aptor there saying Merry Christmas my brothers uh who so Bill is in the room that's a new uh handle for me if that is him also merry Christmas to Bill too yeah man uh we miss you man and uh hope to be talking to you soon yeah man uh Bill you yeah we will be talking to you soon I promise that money uh money Mac101 saying hello gentlemen and all Merry Christmas from San Francisco California all right money Mac and let's see uh Leon talking about the River City Wrestling Con. Yeah that's the uh wrestling con that we were talking about that happens every year and uh let's see Leon is saying that uh cool video I guess he's talking about the uh snow fight that we had uh over the holidays all right Teddy here you go John McClain wants to know is Die Hard a Christmas movie no yes it is do you really not that's a real thing a lot of people don't find it a Christmas movie but the only time I ever want to see it is at Christmas so for some reason I find it a Christmas movie even though it is an action movie but you know well I didn't even I've never even seen the whole movie Die Hard I know what you're talking about and I've seen clips of it but I never seen anything in the clips and thing that reminds me of Christmas. Yeah the entire uh night and the problem that happens all takes place during Christmas uh and so you see Christmas decorations everywhere it's Teddy if you've never watched that movie if you do you watch movies much not really yeah I didn't think you were a movie person I was about to say you ought to watch it but it if you don't watch movies and uh let's see Miss Fit Hermy writes if you had to describe yourself as either Santa Claus or the Grinch which would it be and why I would be the Grinch because I'm just a mean person. You're not that mean if you travel and I know uh Mr. Denise is with Teddy in that room right now if you're with Teddy Teddy can get fussy at times but he's hilarious when he gets fussy so you have to learn to laugh with it. Teddy's never really mean he's just serious he just he he's just an honest guy is he's just like me I'm gonna tell you exactly what I think and and I'm not trying to be mean I'm just being blunt and we get along perfectly that way.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah don't beat around the bush you know if you got something to say say it and be done with it.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah really all right let's see uh what's that we got one more in here uh we got some stuff coming down on the uh screen too Yukon Cornelius who who came up with it uh what did he do
SPEAKER_02:That first guy's name. I was gonna ask you about him.
SPEAKER_01:I'm sitting here and I'm realizing that all the ones that we've been given to question have all come from it looks like Christmas movies. Hang on, where's that first one? What what who was the first? Oh, here it is. Yeah, that's exactly what this is. Somebody's being a smart ass. Yeah, Cindy Lou was from the Grinch, I think. John McClane is from Die Hard. I should have caught that right away. Miss Fit Hermie. I don't know who he was. Rudolph. Rudolph. Oh, he was the dentist, wasn't he? It was see. Look, Mr. Nice knows more than we do. Uh yes, she does. Yes, she does. Yukon was from Rudolph, too. Yeah. Okay, but here's one from UConn Cornelius, uh Teddy, or whoever it really is. Any memories working in wrestling during Christmas? And you had mentioned some. You did back in the day. There wasn't days off. You worked those days, and sometimes twice a day. What was that? Was with uh Jim Crockett or NWA?
SPEAKER_02:Well, Jim Crockett was NWA. So uh yeah, uh we always worked. In fact, two shows, you know, you'd work Greensboro or either Charlotte during that that afternoon, and then drive and do a show in Atlanta that night, the same night. That night also happened around Thanksgiving, too. So uh yeah, it wasn't no time off, man. You you worked and you know, and because like I said, money was wasn't like it is like guys are making now. So you had to work, man. You know, you you try to survive, so you didn't care nothing about no holidays. You you wanted to be booked.
SPEAKER_01:You know, nowadays, Teddy, they really how many days a week are they actually working on the road? Because it seems like the only thing they're the only thing that they're doing now are just the TV and uh PLEs, right?
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, that I I guess that's probably what it is. I don't know no live events that they're doing anywhere.
SPEAKER_01:Wow, wow. Can you imagine some of these guys trying to do the uh the grind like you did back in the day?
SPEAKER_02:No, they couldn't handle that.
SPEAKER_01:No, no, no, I don't think so either. Uh let's see. Uh Ellen, she's saying that Buddy says Teddy is not a Grinch. Uh no, he he he's actually Santa Claus. Uh he's the Grinch in disguise. Uh let's see. Herb Simmons uh saying that Teddy, you are great. You don't supercoat it. That's why I love you guys. Yeah. Thank you, Blair. Yeah, we're gonna tell you something straight up, and Herb knows that. Yeah. Uh Leon saying that uh what artists are you listening to these days? Classy, uh classic Isley and OJs or new music? We heard you could sing.
SPEAKER_02:Uh who said who? I don't know who told you I could sing. Yeah, I wonder the same thing, Leon. Well, you know, I did sing uh somewhere, something I did on NWE, some skid I had me singing or something, and so who knows? Um, I I listened to uh who do I like now? Um probably uh golly, um I like DJ Khalett. He's pretty he's pretty good. I like him. Uh listen to a little bit of Cardi B. Cardi B? Yeah, yeah, but not a whole lot, man. I don't listen to too much, you know. I kind of like the kind of the mellow rappers, you know, some of those guys like Teddy Swims. Yeah. Uh I you know, I listen to him.
SPEAKER_01:One of my favorites was the uh Macarindeer. I was beginning to wonder if he was gonna come back to us or not. Let's see, uh Herb Simmons, I don't know if I had this uh before we went into that. Uh Herb Simmons saying, Teddy, uh and you are great. You tell it like it is. Thank you, Herb. We appreciate that. And uh anybody else has anything you want to get to us? Uh we still have oh, a couple of three, four minutes, maybe we can go uh before it cuts us off. Uh we went way over last week. Teddy, uh, anything else you want to talk about that's coming up for you?
SPEAKER_02:Uh gonna be getting ready to go and do something with uh Abdullah the Butcher next month. I think January the 9th in Atlanta will be uh Abdullah's uh I think it's maybe his 80th birthday. I'm not sure, but uh uh keep talking, I'll pull it up. What is it, baby? Oh, he's 85. He's 85.
SPEAKER_01:He's 80, I think.
unknown:80.
SPEAKER_01:80th birthday, yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Okay, it's 80th birthday. Okay, so we're gonna be doing that along with Ron Simmons. And I talked to um Robert Gibson yesterday, so I thank him and uh Ricky Morton, Rock and Roll Express, they're gonna be a part of it too, uh, in March in Atlanta at the center stage. Uh MLW will uh be back in Atlanta, and uh I'll be uh part of that group and uh be doing something with those guys.
SPEAKER_01:That sounds good. And uh anything else that uh you guys uh want us to do, talk about on this program in the new year, please let us know. Just simply drop us a message uh in the comments or send me a message direct if you want. It's MacDavismail, M-A-I-L at Gmail.com. And uh I'd be happy to hear uh any suggestions people you'd like to have on the show that maybe we haven't had on here yet, uh, or anything else along those lines. And of course, Bill Aptor will rejoin us again. I believe it'll probably be on the next show or the one after. It depends on his schedule, uh, if he's available on one of those two dates. Uh, but outside of that, that's it, Teddy. I've enjoyed this. Uh doing this on Christmas, and and we had a lot of folks in the room. So uh this is uh actually interesting.
SPEAKER_02:So yeah, well, I want to thank everybody too for joining us, too, because you know there's so many things that people could be doing that are especially here on Christmas Day and uh take the time out and you know and hang out with you and me for 30 minutes, man. I really we really appreciate it. Thank you.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, absolutely. And by the way, I have noticed when the show is over that in some cases I don't see all the messages, they don't come up on the screen uh here. And I go back and go, How did I miss this? And how did I miss that? There's a lot, there are like four or five questions last time that we never got to. I apologize for that. I can only answer what I see on the screen.
SPEAKER_02:And we got something there before we go, Dad. If you want to read that, it said if fans want to send you some gifts, where can they get an address? So, Mac, you can take care of that.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, uh, if you'll just uh contact me on that Gmail account I just told you, I'll give you everything you need to know as far as sending something. If you'd like to send something along. Uh, look here, I I've had cases where people have sent shirts saying, Can you wear this shirt on the uh the screen? This is a free show. You want to send me free uh gear to wear on the screen? I don't think I'm gonna have a problem saying yes or you, Teddy. Will you please quit begging? I'm not begging, I'm just saying if you want to send it, send it. But uh otherwise, I'm just gonna get my free stuff from Teddy.
SPEAKER_02:Well, now you're now you're scoozing me off.
SPEAKER_01:I do. It's about time I need a ball cap. That last ball cap you gave me, man. That's my it I'm about warring a hole in it.
SPEAKER_02:I think you don't need a ball cap, you just need to go ahead and finish shaving the rest of that hair off your head. That's what you need to do. Oh, that's okay.
SPEAKER_01:There's no hair on my head at all, it's just all right here. Okay, all that Santa Claus itchy stuff. So we're out of here. I'm Mac David. That's WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long. We hope everybody watching tonight had a fantastic Christmas. Please don't forget us, go down below, subscribe, and hit that notifications button. It helps the show. I promise. SPEAKER_01:Merry Christmas. And uh, we hope to see you again next week, Thursday night, seven o'clock Eastern time, right here.
SPEAKER_00:Lights are twinkling all around. Joy and laughter, what a sound. Santa's coming with his sleigh. We'll have fun and shout hooray!
